Chimera Twin
This project documents an ongoing study and body of work about the deeply personal journey I have been on, since finding out I am a surviving twin.
For many years prior to this discovery (in 2024) I had been fascinated with my shadow and featured shadow work in a lot of my photography
However, my art started to see ‘another female’ jumping unintentionally and more frequently into paintings in early 2025 and so I explored this topic with my shamanic work, and a film making course in Berlin.
The experience culminated in a shamanic retreat ‘Dancing with Bear’ in London December 2025 - which explored themes of Artemis, twinning, duality and it was here I had a transcendental experience, which led to deep integration.
A Shamanic Journey to Wholeness
I had the most amazing experience to train with Rouzbeh Rashidi in Berlin, May 2025, at the Institut fur West-Ostliche Musik watching and disecting experimental and personal films. On the 4th day, each of us (a group of 6 women, including me) had just over 24 hours to produce a film of our choice, edit and deliver it, with guidelines that could be followed or broken. No strict rules, just caring guidance. These were then combined to produce one seamless 45 minute piece, that was emotional to watch (for me) to the point of near vomit, shaking and confusion. Then overtaken by feeling giddy, almost high. It was intense. My film focuses on a relationship I never had, with my sister Dia. I play me, her, and the observer, and utilise the beautiful drum (a very sacred Persian instrument I borrowed) to finally integrate the 2 sides of me that had ripped me apart. All day we fought, we laughed, she taught me, she made fun of me. I faced my emotions, we stopped fighting. We became one. Finally. With huge gratitude I publish this raw, unpolished offering that 'destroyed me' in Rouzbeh's words; meaning changed me forever in its making. That was my intention, although expressed differently by me, for the course, before I arrived, which he so beautiful led. Thank you to all who were present.
