Installation East London: Paper Dress Vintage Hackney
Projected animations for a gig in East London
This case study shows an installation carried out at Paper Dress Vintage, in July 2022. I was asked to create an animation / installation in the upstairs music venue of this niche vintage clothing shop and then capture creative images and video footage of the night. The images were projected onto a screen at the back of the main stage, providing vibrant colour and moving patterns which added to the ambience of the event, with all photography for the animation taken in the surrounding area.

The Pre-Gig Shoot
The photos above were taken for use in the The Paper Dress Vintage gig installation. Most were captured early morning - as I jogged around the area to find the venue and get inspiration for the projections that showed this edgy, inspiring urban part of East London. The images were then edited and optimised for projection at the gig that night..
Key themes that I felt worked for the venue included: street art, the canal and reflections in water, my shadow and the the different faces of the goddess - from light to dark. Beauty to me is not always found in the traditional sense of the word, so the collection included things I noticed that were bright, blurred, iconic - and would work in the room the band were playing. The imagery aimed to capture the spirit of the location, to suit the audience at a very cool music venue.
The images were then projected onto the band and photographed for use in future marketing, social media and promotions.
